FAQs

In-person or online consultation?

Whilst in-person consultations are often preferable, online versions can offer a viable and effective alternative for those not living locally or who just prefer the flexibility of being online. I offer a confidential, relaxing space in my garden studio at my home here in Hampshire for in-person consultations, or alternatively, can travel to you (within a 30 mile radius) if this is deemed appropriate, although a further fee would apply.

There is, of course, flexibility to be had within those packages and this can be discussed in our introductory chat or in our first session.

What can I expect from a session?

In advance of your first consultation, you will be sent a detailed questionnaire about your health, diet and lifestyle.  I will also ask you complete a 5 Day Food Diary. We will then have our 1 ½ hour consultation where we will consider your responses and you will have ample opportunity to let me know what issues you have been suffering from and the changes you would like to see. Following this session, I will then take time to consider the conditions you have brought to me in the context of your current lifestyle and will formulate a 5 Day Menu Planner, an Action Plan and a Diet and Lifestyle Analysis. This is all highly personalised so would be sent to you within 5 – 7 business days of our initial meeting unless I feel some testing is appropriate, which leads me to….

Do you offer laboratory testing?

Where appropriate, I use Genova Diagnostics and Regenerus Labs for tests such as cholesterol, blood sugar control, microbiome profiles, allergies, sensitivities etc. In some cases, a referral to your GP may be necessary or preferable, but always with your consent.  Sometimes, there are simple “self-tests” that can be done at home.

Will I be expected to buy supplements?

Not always. I am a firm believer in trying to get the bulk of our nutrients from whole foods but sometimes there can be obvious deficiencies that supplements are appropriate for. I do not sell supplements directly but would recommend specific ones if necessary.

Can I expect quick results?

Not always!  Sometimes a shift in habits can take time to take effect but I will be here to support and encourage you on your journey and sometimes a slower approach to turning things around can be best and more sustainable in the long run.  Making dietary and lifestyle changes requires commitment but I believe that knowledge and support ensures that you will not be relying on will-power alone and that it should be an enjoyable and positive process wherever possible.

What is Nutritional Therapy?

In simple terms, Nutritional Therapy studies why or how a food or specific nutrients may be beneficial or harmful by understanding the physiological processes that it influences in the body. My studies also encompassed how lifestyle factors such as exercise, working conditions, stress, exposure to pollution or toxins can affect our health.  A Nutritional Therapist will assess a person’s health, diet and lifestyle to identify any nutritional imbalances.  After considering these factors, a NT may recommend foods, supplements and lifestyle changes to support the body’s healing processes.

Should I ignore my doctor and see you instead?

Absolutely not. Nutritional Therapy is recognised as a complementary medicine that works well alongside other therapies and conventional medicine. It does NOT replace medical advice and clients should always consult their doctor regarding health concerns.  I may well ask your consent to contact your GP on your behalf if I feel it is necessary.

Will I be given on-going support between consultations?

Yes. I can answer simple queries via email with no further charge, but if there are more complex questions which cannot wait until the next consultation, we can either bring that forward or you can pay for an additional session if we feel that is appropriate.
